VTMS to boost Chennai Port security


Chennai:
The Vessel Traffic Management System to regulate the vessels at Chennai Port will be operational from next month.

The trial run of the project which was awarded to Kongsberg Norcontrol, Norway at a cost of Rs 9.81 crore is completed and it will be operational from next month, said Shipping Minister G K Vasan.

VTMS regulates the arrival of vessels and has a radar for monitoring and controlling the vessel real time position. Interestingly, Indian Navy and Coast Guard will also be procuring video remote display feeds from Chennai Port’s VTMS.
