Bajaj Auto woos TN with launch of 100cc bike

Chennai:
Bajaj Auto, the world’s third largest motorcycle company, is planning to woo Tamil Nadu motorbike customers with its latest Pongal offering ‘Discover 100T’ Tourer.

Speaking to reporters after the launch of the 100 cc bike, Bajaj Auto General Manager(Sales), R Chandrasekar said Bajaj Auto has already shipped 800 bikes to Tamil Nadu coinciding with Pongal. “We are planning to sell around 3,500 to 4,000 bikes a month in the state,” he added.

Priced at Rs 51,979 (ex-showroom Chennai), Discover 100 T is costlier than the existing Discover 100cc model by about Rs 7,000.

“ We will be targeting Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala next and the bikes for these states will be manufactured at the company’s Aurangabad facility,” said Chandrasekhar. He said after that the company will be eyeing the northern part of India. He said Bajaj Auto would begin production of this motorcycle at its Pant Nagar plant end of this month for serving the Northern markets

Interestingly, the growth of motorcycle industry has been stagnant. He said while the traditional motor bike market in south and west has slowed down, in north the growth is picking up.

Chandrasekhar also said that Bajaj also has plans to export the bike. The company has been exporting Pulsar and Discover models to South Africa, Latin America and Indonesia markets.
