Modi’s chopper diverts Kerala Chief minister’s aircraft

> The Indigo aircraft carrying Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Governor and former chief justice of India P Sathasivam was diverted to Coimbatore as arrangements were made for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s chopper to land at Chennai Airport from INS Adyar.

> Sources told Express that since Prime Minister’s helicopter was approaching the airport, officials took a decision to divert the flight carrying Kerala’s Chief Minister and Governor to Coimbatore.

> Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in the city to pay his final tribute to Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who passed away on Monday night following a cardiac arrest.

> The delay could have been two to three minutes but sources said the decision was keeping in mind the security concerns of the Prime Minister as well as diversion fuel of the aircraft.

>
> “The diverted Indigo aircraft landed at 3.15pm. Both Kerala Chief Minister and Kerala governor paid their last respects to Jayalalithaa at Rajaji Hall,” sources added.

> For airport authorities, it was a day of busy schedule as President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Chief Minister of various states visited the city to pay their final tributes to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.

> It is also learnt that President Pranab Mukheree’s flight, which was on its way to Chennai, was also delayed as it developed technical snag in mid-air. The President later returned to Chennai and paid floral tributes to the remains of Jayalalithaa.
