TN to build Marina for mooring luxury yachts, sailing boats

Tamil Nadu government is set to build a Marina for mooring luxury yachts and sailing boats in the vicinity around Chennai, according to additional Chief Secretary and chairperson and managing director of Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Susan Mathew.
Speaking to Express on the sidelines of Consultative Meeting on Vision 2025 Industrial Development in Tamil Nadu on Monday, Mathew said the Marina will pave way for the growth of ship and yacht building industry.
“During the chief minister’s review meeting in July, it was directed to go in for such a project along the Tamil Nadu coastline. And TIDCO was entrusted with the task of developing the Marina on the coastline,” Mathew said.
“Such a Marina is in place in Kochi and a delegation lead by TIDCO chairperson and managing director along with the general manager visited Kochi before planning a similar one in Chennai,” she said.
“The delegation held discussion with Kerala Tourism Development Corporation and Kerala Industrial Technical Consultancy Organisation who had developed the Marina in Kochi,” she said.
Mathew said the plan for Marina has been approved by the chief minister and the land is being identified in the vincinity of Chennai along with Chennai Port Trust and other agencies.
“As soon as the land is identified, TIDCO will go in for global tenders and take further steps to implement the project,” she added.
Mathew also said that major projects that are shaping up include information technology park in Chennai, a global scale shipbuilding complex in Kattupalli, petroleum refinery project in Cuddalore district and aerospace parks
