Chennai Metro records increase of 25 lakh passengers in last eight months

CHENNAI:

Chennai Metro Rail has recorded an increase of nearly 25 lakh passengers in the last 8 months. According to figures available, the patronage has increased from 66.07 lakh in January 2023 to 85.89 lakh in the month of August, 2023.

Going by the data, it looks Chennai Metro, whose ridership was around 2 lakh passengers a day could soon catch up to 3 lakh passengers a day. The ridership to break even was 4.33 lakh as per the detailed project report. During the last two months the ridership has been hovering over 80 lakh passengers a month.

The increase is due to better connectivity and due to traffic woes following metro rail works being undertaken under the second phase. With jam packed trains and affordable luxury in travelling air conditioned coaches, the patronage is catching up.

According to the Metro Rail data, August 11, 2023 recorded the highest passenger flow of 3.39 lakh.  Meanwhile, in the month of August, 2023 a total of 31,05,583 passengers have utilised the QR Code ticketing system, 47,56,951 passengers have used Travel Card Ticketing System, 3,26,491 passengers have used Token System, 5,685 passengers have used Group Ticketing System and 3,95,267 passengers have used NCMC Singara Chennai Card, a release stated.

Encumbrance certificate error: TN panel to fix software glitch

 C Shivakumar @ CHENNAI:

If a piece of land is sold more than five times in Tamil Nadu, chances are that the encumbrance certificate (EC) for the land or the survey number may not reflect all the transactions. The problem is because of a technical glitch in the ‘Tamil Nilam’ software used by the revenue department.

According to sources, the software could record only five transactions using alphanumeric (alphabets and numbers) codes and further transactions are recorded as sub-division of the land. In such cases, the EC of the survey number for the land will not reflect the correct transaction.
This may lead to difficulty in getting building plan and other approvals and bank loans, sources said. Because of the glitch, it has become difficult for buyers to trace the transaction history of the property beyond 30 years, the sources said.

The state revenue department gets 1.5 lakh applications per year for patta transfers involving sub-division of plots. Currently, state government departments use two software applications for land transactions. While land records are maintained by the revenue department in a centralised database called ‘Tamil Nilam’, the registration department uses Star 3.0 software for registration of properties. Currently, a mutation software is being used to carry out mutations of land parcels necessitated because of sale of asset, gift deeds, legal partition among heirs and based on court orders. These applications are processed through ‘Tamil Nilam’ software for issuing patta with or without sub-division.

Registration department sources said that work on integration of the two software (Tamil Nilam and Star) is on. The revenue department is also thinking of sharing land records and mutation data with departments like rural department, municipal, and administration and housing and urban development departments. This would be helpful in seamlessly accessing OSR land data, roads, and land details of public utilities, government and local bodies.

Sources said the state government is planning to set up a taskforce or monitoring committee to ensure effective use of land record database for better public service delivery. The committee to be headed by the revenue secretary will have 14 members and may meet once in two months. It would focus on Aadhaar seeding of records in survey and registration departments and sharing of land records data with state entities.

US 7th Fleet 'Tridents" conduct anti-submarine warfare exchange with Indian Navy

CHENNAI:

The VP-26 “Tridents”, which conducts maritime patrol and reconnaissance as part of a rotational deployment to the US 7th Fleet area of operations, completed a week-long combined anti-submarine warfare (ASW)  exchange with the “Albatross” of Indian Naval Air Squadron (INAS) 312 at India Naval Air Station Rajali.

The Tridents are based in Jacksonville, Florida, and are currently forward deployed to Misawa Air Base, Japan. Termed as 'subject matter expert exchange', it focused on improving interoperability between the two navies’ maritime patrol and reconnaissance forces. It included training on ASW and information sharing on specific maritime-challenges in the Indian Ocean.

The exchange is the latest in a series of interactions between the U.S. and Indian navies, reflecting their shared commitment to building interoperability and collaborating in support of maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region. The US 7th Fleet is the US Navy's largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region. Th week-long exhange got over on Monday, a US consulate release stated.

One VP 26 P-8A Poseidon aircraft and one INAS 312 P-8I Poseidon aircraft participated in the exchange. INAS 312 is one of two Indian Navy squadrons operating the P-8I Poseidon. “This is a great opportunity to strengthen our partnership with India and improve our ability to work together to protect the maritime commons,” said Lt Ryan Speir, VP-26’s detachment officer in charge. “The P-8A is a highly capable aircraft which plays a vital role in ASW operations, and this professional exchange will ensure that we are able to effectively use this asset in a combined environment.”

The P-8A is a long-range, multi-mission maritime patrol aircraft that is capable of conducting ASW, anti-surface warfare, search and rescue, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions. The P-8I, the Indian variant of the P-8A, is equipped with additional sensors and weapons that are tailored to the Indian Navy’s requirements.

The two squadrons participated in flying and non-flying activities, which included discussions on operational planning, maintenance training and logistical support. VP-26 and INAS 312 also coordinated flying events with Indian Navy surface ships.

Fearing heatwave threat to economy, TN to come out with action plan

C Shivakumar @ CHENNAI:
Fearing the threat to its economy due to the rising global temperature, the Tamil Nadu government is coming out with an action plan which could transform the urban planning and design of buildings.

The action plan being prepared under the guidance of the State Planning Commission by involving the State Departments, research institutions, civil society organizations and institutions of national and international expertise will focus on improving conventional cooling by increasing the efficiency of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. It will also focus on green roofs, cool roofs, cool pavements.

Sources indicated that the first working committee meeting is scheduled this week. The state is coming out with an action plan as it is located in the vulnerable part of the Indian Peninsula and is subjected to climate and geological related disasters viz., cyclone, flood, earthquakes, tsunami and drought to varying degrees.

Though the nationwide data shows that between 1992 to 2015, a total of 24,223 deaths happened across the country due to heat wave, there are no data about fatalities in the state. Sources said that state planning department has come out with a concept note on mitigation of heat, which is linked with economic growth and is recognised as key to the health, wellbeing, and productivity of people in hot climates.

According to a concept note accessed by The New Indian Express, increasing heat requires a large part of the cooling demand across sectors such as buildings, cold-chain, refrigeration and transport. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), refrigeration and air conditioning causes 10% of the global CO2 emissions. Only 9% of Indian households have air conditioning as of now, but this demand is projected to increase 20-fold by 2050.

"Under business-as-usual, this translates into a huge emissions and energy problem, as room air conditioners alone will account for one-quarter of India’s emissions and 45% of nationwide peak electricity demand in 2050. This in turn risks deadly power outages as both temperatures and electricity demand surge during India’s more frequent and intense heat waves," the report states.

As a result the state could go in for adoption and enforcement of Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) for both commercial and residential sectors at the municipal and urban and local body level and through development of city level action plan, sources said.

The report states that the number of persons living in urban areas will continue to grow at a faster rate than the population in the rural areas due to migration and increasing urbanization in Tamil Nadu.  "The concurrence of heat and drought events are causing crop production losses and tree mortality. The risks to health and food production will be made more severe from the sudden food production losses exacerbated by heat-induced labour productivity losses. These interacting impacts will increase food prices, reduce household incomes, and lead to malnutrition and climate-related deaths, especially in tropical regions," the concept note states.

According to an ILO report of 2019, India lost around 4.3% of working hours due to heat stress in 1995 and is expected to lose 5.8% of working hours in 2030. It also shows that 9.04% of working hours are expected to be lost in each agriculture and construction sectors, respectively, due to heat stress in 2030

"Workers in sectors like agriculture and construction will be severely impacted in 2030 because India’s large population depends on these sectors for their livelihoods. In absolute terms, India is likely to lose around 34 million full-time jobs in 2030 due to heat stress," the report states.

Taramani, Park Town MRTS stations to be leased out to private entities for 45 years; Draft Feasibility report suggests PPP mode with private developers

C Shivakumar @ CHENNAI:
After dilly dallying for several years to commercialise the huge space available in MRTS stations, Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority is likely to shortlist Taramani and Park Town to be developed under the first phase.

Sources said that according to the draft feasibility report to maximise non-fare box revenue for MRTS stations, the two stations have been prioritised among the 20 MRTS stations. The two stations are likely to be leased out for a period of 45 years. The amount received from lease, advertising and non-fare box revenue (NFBR) of Taramani and Park Town stations added together in the next 45 years is estimated to be around 2363 crore. The non-fare box revenue is revenue generated by sources other than passenger fares.

This would mean the hollow blocks of MRTS will be bustling with life. It would have rental shops, event spaces, wall posters, commercial offices, entertainment centres or gaming arcades, station dormitories, parking area rentals , shopping kiosks, ATM and smart Kiosks, food and beverage among others.

Sources said that Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority  (CUMTA) and Chennai Metropolitan Development  Authority have expressed interest in forming Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models with private developers to improve or upgrade MRTS stations and enhance the commuting experience of the passengers. This model facilitates the utilization of the expertise and resources of private entities while ensuring government participation in the proces.

Official sources said that  commercialisation of MRTS stations have attracted many developers who are vying to be part of the initiative. Currently, the non-farebox revenue percentages are 6%, 14%, and 16% in Bangalore, Mumbai, and Chennai respectively. This is quite less when compared to international MRTS where the non-farebox revenue contributions range from 30 % to 60%.

Taramani Station has a greater NFBR potential than Parktown Station, owing to its larger area. The stations will be retrofitted and the facilities will be enhanced. Basic amenities such as drinking water, toilets, washbasins, seating, and signage will be upgraded. In addition to fire safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, manual fire alarms, and first aid kits, the implementation of CCTV cameras with 360-degree coverage and a range of 100 metres has been recommended to increase the safety of the stations, sources said.

Sources said the plan is also to develop railway station neighbourhoods through mixed-use development. This includes a mix of residential, commercial, and retail spaces. Taramani Station is an elevated station. This station is between Thiruvanmiyur and Perungudi stations. The station connects two main arterial roads, including OMR and Taramani- Velachery Link Road. The neighbourhood areas are mainly composed of institutional development.

Parktown Station is situated at a major transportation hub. Being a part of an intermodal transportation hub, the station has great potential in terms of passenger footfall throughout the year. The current condition of the station offers numerous unrealized opportunities for NFBR
avenues. The estimated total NFBR rental area is approximately 1,576 sq.ft. The total advertising space is estimated to be 316 sq.ft.

TN govt holding discussion with industries to set up 'India Centre for Advanced Manufacturing'

CHENNAI:
Tamil Nadu government is holding discussion with Industries to set up 'India Centre for Advanced Manufacturing' in Chennai by drawing on the global expertise of the World Economic Forum and the insights of Guidance Tamil Nadu.

A discussion in this regard was held wherein 20 business leaders deliberated on the focus areas of the Centre here on Tuesday, which include technology adoption and innovation, industry-academia engagement, and sustainable production.

Industries Minister TRB Rajaa said that the Centre's three-fold objectives include --- supporting high-end innovation, new business models, and digital transformation for manufacturing companies, including SMEs. It also includes promoting industry-academia collaboration to drive innovation, workforce upskilling, and research and development; and facilitating system-wide collaborations to support supply chain decarbonization and circularity.

The State's partnership with the World Economic Forum and other stakeholders is crucial in elevating Tamil Nadu to higher value-add segments of the manufacturing value chain. Amid the Fourth Industrial Revolution's transformative technological advancements and supply chain
disruptions, these efforts are expected to equip industries to adopt new technologies and maintain competitiveness, a release stated.

Earlier this year, then Tamil Nadu  Industries Minister Thangam Thenarasu had announced in the state assembly that Guidance will act as the operational arm of the World Economic Forum's Advanced Manufacturing Value Chain (AMVC) platform. The Centre is likely to be operationalised by January 2024 in line with the Global Investors Meet.

Rajaa said the State's partnership with the World Economic Forum and other stakeholders is crucial in elevating Tamil Nadu to higher value-add segments of the manufacturing value chain. Amid the Fourth Industrial Revolution's transformative technological advancements and supply chain
disruptions, these efforts are expected to equip industries to adopt new technologies and maintain competitiveness, he added.

“Leapfrogging into the future of manufacturing using the principles of ‘Industry 4.0’ is crucial to achieving Chief Minister MK Stalin’s target of a USD 1 trillion economy in Tamil Nadu. We have already started the digital transformation process, and Tamil Nadu becoming the capital of advanced manufacturing will further bolster our efforts,” he added.

TN plans to come out with Tree Act to protect indiscriminate felling of trees

C Shivakumar @ CHENNAI:
Tamil Nadu's green cover, which has been continously ravaged in the name of development, could soon have a legal backing. The trees dotting the public spaces will be protected with the state government planning to come out with a Tree Act.

Additional Chief Secretary of Environment Climate Change and Forests, Supriya Sahu told The New Indian Express though the state had come out with a mechanism last year to protect the trees by constituting State Level Green Committee and District Level Green Committee after the Madras High Court wanted a mechanism to regulate the felling of trees. It still lacked a legal backing.

As such the state is working on a Tree Act which will be modelled as per The Delhi Tree Act, 1994 and various other models being implemented in the country, the environment secretary said. She said even Karnataka and Goa are among the states that have Tree Acts.

The Act could make felling, removal or disposal of any tree or forest produce in any land whether in ownership or occupancy or otherwise without  prior permission an offence as is being done in Delhi.  The Delhi Act has also provisions of fine. "Any person who fells a tree on conviction can be punished with imprisonment which may extend to one year or with fine which may extend to Rs. 1,000 or both. However a forest offence under the said Act can be compounded by paying value of forest produce or compensation which may extend to Rs. 10,000 or both," according to the Act.

It is learnt that the state is also compiling an inventory of trees, which will be mapped and tagged. Besides, a standard operating procedure (SoP) os being worked out for cutting of trees. Sahu, who is planning to plant, 260 crore trees by 2030, says the scheme is on track. "We have planted seven crore saplings and the state has now 1917 nurseries. We plan to increase the carbon stock by another 30 to 40 metric tonnes," she said. The sapling would be native ones, she said.

The environment secretary also plans to set up blue green centres, an malagation of river, lakes and tanks with trees, parks and gardens in 100 villages. These will be owned by the communities.

Sahu also spoke at a a panel discussion highlighting the contribution of pioneering Australian ecologist and long-term resident of Tamil Nadu Joss Brooks to Greening Madras hosted by the Australian Consulate-General in Chennai. Brooks, a kindergarten dropout, from Australia was the brain behind implementation of Tholkappiar Poonga Eco-Park restoration for the Tamil Nadu government by restoring and rewilding 58 acres of wetland as part of the Adyar estuary in Chennai. He was also instrumental in creating several bio-diversity interpretation centres in many parts of Chennai including Siruseri Twin Lakes in South Chennai.

Australian Consul-General, Sarah Kirlew said there is a lot of cooperative work Australia and India can do on conserving and restoring ecosystems, including around water management, where Australia has some world-leading technology.

2,300 year old ASI protected site in Kilambakkam dug up for red earth

C Shivakumar @ CHENNAI:

The protected and prohibited zone of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) which contains 2,300 year old ‘Megalithic Burial Sites' in Kilambakkam bus terminus has been illegally excavated and mined for red earth.

Local sources said that illegal mining of red sand was done by the contractor hired by Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority for Archaeological Interpretation Centre and climate park in the upcoming Kilambakkam bus terminus.

Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) member secretary Anshul Mishra said that "We are only sectioning (leveling) the earth for construction of the park." Chief Minister MK Stalin laid the foundation stone for the project, which is to be created at Rs 14.98 crore. He said that ASI
Superintending Archaeologist is also a member of the CMDA committee.  To a query on allegations that the sand is being dug and used for another park being built by CMDA in six acres of land by the contractor, he said that he will find out if such illegal thing is happening and action will be taken as per the law.

M Kalimuthu, Superintending Archaeologist, told The New Indian Express that following a complaint, he asked officials to survey the site. "The site has been excavated. We are investigating. As per the Act, a notice will be sent to the concerned agency. After which we will register a First Information Report with the police," he said.

According to an amendment to the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act in January 2010, all construction is banned within 100 metres of ASI-protected areas and any construction or reconstruction or repair of a building within 200 metre of such areas requires permission from the National Monument Authority.

The National Monument Authority (NMA) gave its clearance for construction of a bus terminus with a total height of 34 metres on five conditions. These include that there should be no development in the 100 metre prohibited area except greenery; boundary of the site and signages should be done by the state government; space for education and interpretation of the site for public; involvement of archaeologist at the time of excavation and mitigation measures to be taken at the time of construction.

Kalimuthu says that discussion was for levelling without any digging. "I never gave them the permission to remove earth. Have they consulted anyone in the department? They have to do only levelling. They should not disturb the site. They can't dig the site. We may be part of the committee but we will not tell them to destroy our site," said Kalimuthu.

He said that from what the report was filed by ASI officials, it is much more than levelling. "If they are levelling, they should have informed us and we would have deputed our official," said Kalimuthu.

According to local sources, the construction of the experimental park and the other one at six acres of land is both being done by a single contractor. It is learnt that the red sand is being dug and smuggled out illegally during the night. It is also alleged that part of it could be sold outside.
A week ago, an anonymous complaint was sent to higher officials in Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority and also to The New Indian Express, which was also forwarded to ASI. Sources said the CMDA officials did not take any action over the complaint.

Port-Maduravoyal project to get underway soon in Chennai, says Chennai Port Chairman

Chennai:

The work on the double-decker flyover project from Chennai Port to Maduravoyal on Poonamallee High road will start soon and the construction work will be completed within two and a half years, according to Chennai Port Chairman Sunil Paliwal. The tenders for the 20.6km double decker elevated highway between Chennai Port and Maduravoyal, which is being built at a cost of Rs 5,855 crore,  has been awarded.

Speaking after hoisting the National flag at Chennai Port's Sri BabuJagajeevan Ram Sports Stadium, Paliwal also said that cruise ship services were launched at Chennai port last year. The ship, which has been in operation for four consecutive months, has received a great response from the public. Following this, international cruise ships have been launched earlier this year as well.

He also said 12,000 saplings have been planted at the Chennai Port. Through this initiative, the port will be transformed into a green port, he said. Paliwal also said that steps have been taken to reduce the tuition fees of students studying in the higher secondary school run by the Port Authority in Tondiarpet by two-thirds.

With this the annual tuition fee of a student has been reduced from Rs 15,000 to about Rs 5,000 thousand. Also, free materials like uniforms, books, shoes, etc. are provided to the students of the government school on behalf of the port. With such concessions, the total number of students has increased from 484 in the last academic year to 780 at present, he added.

Paliwal also distributed cash award to the children of Kamarajar Port's employees and Central Industrial Security Force personnel and Self Help Group Women deployed at Kamarajar Port for their performance in the academic year 2022 -23, a release added.

Senthil Balaji transferred to Enforcement Directorate custody till August 12

Chennai:

Tamil Nadu Minister V Senthil Balaji was transferred to Enforcement Directorate custody till August 12 after Supreme Court confirmed the legality of his arrest.

The visibly tired and a bearded minister was not his usual best as he was bundled between the cops while being transferred in Toyota Innova car. As reporters stormed the Shastri Bhavan, where the Enforcement Directorate office is located, the police had difficulty opening the gates and letting the minister in.

However, it is not clear whether the minister will be kept in Shastri Bhavan or taken to New Delhi for interrogation.

Senthil Balaji was arrested on June 14 for offences of money laundering under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). His wife moved the Madras high court challenging the validity of the arrest which was dismissed by a majority judgement.

Aggrieved, she moved the Supreme Court challenging the high court’s order. Dismissing the appeal, the Supreme Court granted custodial interrogation of Senthil Balaji by the ED.

Chennai corporation, CMDA to assess rectification of Jain Westminster apartment in Chennai

CHENNAI:

Chennai Corporation and CMDA officials have decided to assess the rectification work promised to be carried out by the builder at the 17-storey Jains Westminster apartment complex in Chennai before deciding on shifting the nearly 1,500 residents of the complex to safety. The development comes after the residents complained about ceiling cracks and concrete plasters peeling off the roof at the complex that houses nearly 500 families.

CMDA sources said the developer, Jain Housing and Constructions, has agreed to rectify the defects. "If it is dangerous for residents to stay on the campus during rectification work, they will be shifted out," an official source said.

The apartment complex in Saligramam has three residential blocks and one block was sealed by the CMDA after it was illegally converted for commercial use. CMDA had locked and sealed the block on August 2016. It was de-sealed six months later after the developer promised to retain the building as per the completion certificate. But since the builder did not keep his promise, it was sealed again two months ago, sources said.

M P Kumar, secretary, Jains Westminster Owners' Welfare Association, said most of the residents started occupying the flats in 2015 and after a few years, the building started developing cracks and leaks.

The association approached the Madras High Court through former advocate general T R Rajagopalan four years ago with the demand that the developer undertake a structural stability review using the services of IIT-Madras. But that did not happen. “Now with media spotlight on the issue, the builder landed at the complex on Saturday and held talks with association members and promised to take up the rectification work,” Kumar said.

The development comes even as residents, some of them pensioners and senior citizens, are pooling funds to undertake repair works. "If the government wants us to vacate the premises due to safety concerns, the developer has to financially compensate us for the period of repair work. Many of the residents are still paying EMIs and it would be difficult to afford a home on rent,” Kumar said. The cost of a flat in 2010 was around Rs 1 crore, Kumar said. The builder could not be reached for comments.

Rs 50 crore infrastructure gaps delays Kilambakkam bus terminus

 C Shivakumar @ CHENNAI:

The inauguration of Rs 393.74 crore Kilambakkam Bus terminus for south bound buses continue to get delayed due to infrastructure gaps as works around Rs 45 crore are pending. Though the work to mend the infrastructure gaps could prolong till the festival season of Dussehra or Deepavali, the government is looking at a plan to open the bus terminus phase-wise.

The government is keen to open the bus terminus once the infrastructure gaps are bridged while keeping in mind the needs of the commuters, said Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department and Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority Chairman P K Sekar Babu.

Babu says that the additional works were sanctioned after bus terminus was built with officials turning a blind eye towards infrastructure required to run the bus terminus efficiently. Since the bus terminus is nearing completion, a review was done on the facilities provided for the commuters. It was found that the terminus was being built without taking into account the needs of the passengers. "The area is a low lying one and during rains water gets stagnated. So are the roads, which are narrow. The government doesn't want to take the blame for the haphazard work of the previous government," Babu told TNIE.

The New Indian Express found out that there are more than 10 pending works for which tenders have been floated and for some the work has started. Babu says that the work on the bus terminus is completed. Expecting a footfall of two lakh people, the government initially plans to operate 750 buses for the destinations of Madurai and beyond.

"We are also looking at opening the bus terminus phase wise. This would mean that buses catering to Tirunelveli would be allowed to ply from the terminus in first phase and later buses to Madurai in the next phase. The buses catering to Villupuram would be allowed toi ply in the third phase. However, this would be decided during a meeting soon," the minister said.

Among the pending works include construction of external storm water drain in front of  the bus terminus worth Rs 13.72 crore as it is prone to water logging due to rains. The work order has been issued a week ago. Similarly, the widening of Iyananchery-Meenakshipuram
Road and construction of entrance road to Bus Terminal is being carried out, say official sources.

But projects like construction of police station at the bus terminal has yet to start. So is the construction of Idle bus parking area for
Omni Buses along Outer Ring Road (ORR) near East of Mudichur Lake at a cost of Rs 26.70 crore. The State Express Transport Corporation had opposed accomodating SETC buses and omni buses in the new bus stand which has resulted in CMDA alloting a separate site.

The inauguration of bus terminus for south bound buses has been delayed since the foundation stone was laid in February 2019. The new works which were announced recently has made the project costlier by 25 per cent.

TN first state to get API connectivity to Income Tax data, says IT minister

CHENNAI:
Tamil Nadu Information Technology Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan on Tuesday called on Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at the Parliament house to thank her for enabling Tamil Nadu to become the first state to get Application Programming Interface (API) connectivity to Income Tax data.

"Following the GST Council model of data sharing across states, this progressive step will increase the efficiency and accuracy of government schemes and subsidies," said Thiagarajan, the former Tamil Nadu finance minister.

During his tenure as Finance minister, Thiagarajan has urged the union Finance Minister for a data sharing protocol that allows the States to access data of Income Tax, Aadhaar, Covid-19 among others, which would supplement efforts of states towards a data-driven administration.

The minister also thanked Sitharaman for the support throughout his time as Finance Minister and Goods Service Tax (GST) Council member.

"I also used the opportunity of being in Delhi (for a University Commencement Lecture and IT-related meetings) to call on and thank the Union Finance Secretary T V Somanathan and the CBDT Chairman  Nitin Gupta for their unstinting support during my term in my previous role," the minister tweeted.
