Tamil Nadu strengthens semiconductor ecosystem with fresh investment pipeline

Chennai:

Tamil Nadu is deepening its semiconductor and advanced electronics ecosystem with a new pipeline of investments spanning semiconductor equipment, bonding materials, reliability testing, chip design and manufacturing support.

Among the key projects, Kinesis Semiconductor Wire Solutions plans to invest ₹193 crore in Chennai to establish what the project note describes as India’s first localised semiconductor bonding-wire manufacturing facility. The project is aimed at strengthening domestic supply chains for a critical material used in semiconductor packaging.

Bigpro Solutions is investing ₹443 crore in Krishnagiri to establish an independent reliability and failure-testing laboratory compliant with MIL-STD-883, the US military standard for microelectronic testing. The facility is expected to support reliability assessment of semiconductor and electronic components.

Richport Technology, meanwhile, is investing ₹130 crore in precision cleaning and surface-treatment capabilities for semiconductor equipment manufacturers, adding another link to the emerging local supply chain.

The pipeline also includes Avalon Technologies’ ₹1,000-crore project for semiconductor equipment and advanced electronics manufacturing, along with PTW Semiconductor’s ₹250-crore investment in semiconductor equipment build, assembly and new product development.

Taken together, the projects indicate a widening of Tamil Nadu’s semiconductor ambitions beyond chip fabrication into packaging materials, equipment, testing, precision engineering and other parts of the supply chain.

The investments come as the state seeks to build an integrated semiconductor and electronics manufacturing ecosystem, positioning Tamil Nadu to capture a larger share of the global supply chain for high-value electronic components and manufacturing services.
