CHENNAI:
Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday launched two mobile applications – ‘Rail Madad’ to help customers with complaints and ‘Menu On Rails’ through which passengers can see meals on offer on-board trains.
Rail MADAD — Mobile Application for Desired Assistance During travel — enables passengers to lodge complaints, be it over food quality or dirty toilets. Customers can also ask for emergency services through the app. Besides, the complaint lodged through the app will straight reach the relevant officials of the divisions concerned and the action taken can be relayed online.
Currently, there are 13 different ways of registering the complaints, including those on social media and they are not integrated, the minister said. He said now all modes of filing complaints including offline and online modes are being integrated on a single platform.
Under Rail MADAD, passengers can lodge their complaints by keying in their PNRs and they will get an instant ID through SMS at the time of registration. This will be followed by personalised SMS regarding the action taken by the department concerned.
Similarly, Menu on Rails is developed by IRCTC for creating awareness about the food items served to passengers on their rail journey. The app shows menu served on all type of trains.
Currently, food items for trains are covered in four categories --- beverages, breakfast, meals and a-la-carte. Under this app, rates for standard food items such as tea, coffee, packaged drinking water, vegetarian thali, non-vegetarian thali are given both for trains as well as stations. Other features in the app include the menu to be served in premium trains such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto group of trains where foods are pre-booked by passengers at the time of booking their tickets itself.
