More than 83 per cent of work at Nemelli desalination
plant is completed and the plant is expected to be commissioned on September
2012.
Municipal administration and rural development minister K
P Munusamy reviewed works at Nemelli desalination plant on Thursday and urged Metro
Water officials and contractors to finish the work before September 2012, Metro
Water release said.
The Cabinet committee on economic affairs (CCEA) accorded
approval to the project and sanctioned a grant of Rs 871.24 crore for the project. Now the state is
seeking additional Rs 983 crore for completing the project, he said.
V A Tech Wabag Limited in consortium with IDE
Technologies in Israel were awarded the contract for building the plant.
The contract for laying drinking water pipeline and tanks
were given to Larsen and Toubro.
Municipal administration and water secretary Sheela
Balakrishnan and Metro Water managing director Apoorva Varma were also present
on the occasion.
