After UN Human Rights Council passed a resolution urging
Sri Lanka to “credibly investigate” allegations of violations during the war
against Tamil Tiger separatists in 2009, pro-Ealam outfits on Saturday demanded
a UN sponsored plebiscite in the Island nation.
Addressing a huge gathering at MGR Nagar here on Saturday
night, leaders from Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Periyar Dravidar
Kazhagam besides noted actor Sathyaraj questioned the reconciliation efforts by
Sri Lanka after perpetrating such heinous war crimes.
Interestingly, pro-Ealam leaders Viduthalai Rajendran,
Kolathur Maniand Vaiko slammed Congress, BJP and Marxists and said the multi-party
MPs delegation lead by Sushma Swaraj, which visited Sri Lanka, have failed the
Tamils in the country and called for plebiscite.
Vaiko said a modality should be set by United Nations to
hold the plebiscite under a fair manner by taking out the army and police from
the Tamil areas. He said the plebiscite should also include Tamil diaspora.
Vaiko also slammed the move by Indian government to send
the Buddha relics to Colombo to displayed in various Lankan cities. “When Sri Lankan
government’s hands is stained by blood of Tamils, is it appropriate to send the
relics,” he questioned.
“I have written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressing my concern,” he said.
