TRIFED opens 32nd showroom in Coimbatore



Coimbatore: TRIFED (Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Ltd) opened its third showroom in Tamil Nadu today, as the 32nd ‘Tribes India’ chain in the country was inaugurated in the state’s second-largest city known for its fast-growing urbanisation and commerce.

The richness and variety of the nation’s tribal heritage was unveiled as the showroom at TNAU-TRIFED Centre was inaugurated byLoretta mary Vas, Secretary to the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj and Tribal Affairs under which TRIFED functions as an autonomous body.

Present on the occasion were Dr K. Ramasamy, Vice Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, and  J. Mohanasundari, MD, Kay Jay Sharp Trendys Sharp Electrodes Pvt. Ltd Coimbatore.

In Tamil Nadu, TRIFED already has showrooms in the state capital of Chennai and tourist city of Kanyakumari.

The products includes tribal jewellery, textiles, metal crafts, paintings organic food products, cane and bamboo, terracotta, stone pottery, gifts and novelties. They range from handwoven yak and angora woollens of Himachal Pradesh, tribal jewelleries from the Northeast, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha and Gujarat; organic products like seasonal fruit juice, spices, walnuts, green tea from the Northeast and Jammu & Kashmir, paintings of Gond, Pithora, Warli and Saura variety, Dokra metal craft from Chhattisgargh, Longpi pottery from Manipur, gift and assortments like bead keychains, pouches and coasters from Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

The showroom in the ‘Manchester of South India’ gets functional at a time when TRIFED’s annual crafts exhibition is on in the national capital. The 16-day ‘Aadishilp’ at the Dilli Haat in Delhi is scheduled to end on January 31.

The 1987-founded TRIFED is primarily engaged in the development and marketing of tribal traditional products including handicrafts and natural products in order to improve the livelihoods of the tribal communities by creating a market and business opportunities for them based on their culture, traditional skills whilst ensuring fair and equitable remuneration
