CVC is inferior to Lok Pal in dealing with political class: EX-CVC

The Central Vigilance Commission is still a statutory body and does not have power to initiate action against political class, according former Central Vigilance Commissioner N Vittal.
Delivering a special lecture on “Will Lokpal be more effective than Central Vigilance Commission?” here on Saturday night,  the former CVC said Lok Pal is more powerful than CVC as it will have the power to enquire into the political class.
He said it was only due to public pressure that, that government is willing to pass the Lok Pal Bill. “The issue is before the standing committee and there is no time limit to pass the bill. I doubt it will be passed before the next elections in 2014,” said the former bureaucrat.
He also that right persons with right qualifications should be the lokpal. “They should not be tempted for post-retirement benefits,” Vittal added.
Madras High Court judge V Ramasubramanian, who spoke on the  
“Importance of Gandhian thoughts in the present day India”, said that for cleaning the system one has to cleanse his mind and heart.
He also said that non-violence should be a weapon of the brave rather a shield of the poor. Hailing Mahatma Gandhi, on the eve of the Father of nation’s birthday, he said a person who speaks what he thinks and does is a Mahatma.
N S Venkatraman, trustee of the Nandini Voice for The Deprived and noted activist Krish dev were also present on the occasion. Forty-four college and school students who have won the debate, essay and quiz competitions would be presented with the award.
