CHENNAI:
In
a bid to curb illegal transportation of sand and create a database of
trucks carrying sand from 26 quarries, Public Works Department conducted a special camp for verifying vehicle records.
PWD
sources said that the camp was conducted at all the 32 districts by
PWD officials along with Regional Transport Officers from August 7 to
August 11.
The
original records of sand transporting vehicles in the district
headquarters was reviewed after which the data of which all lorries are
eligible and those who are not eligible will be uploaded online.
“This will help in online procurement of sand from the quarries by the trucks,” the official said.
The trucks whose records are verified will be the only ones that will be allowed to transport sand, the official added.
