Plans to construct roundabout, widen roads to ease traffic congestion following operation of Kilambakkam bus terminus next month

In a bid to reduce traffic congestion due to the operation of new bus terminus in Kilambakkam, which is likely to open next month, the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority is planning to construct a roundabout and widen roads besides providing idle parking for private Omni Buses at Outer Ring Road in Varadharajapuram,

A roundabout will be constructed at Guduvanchery while different stretches of road will be widened to ease traffic congestion. These include widening the road from Guduvancheri, Madambakkam road to Mannivakkam of about 7 km; from Kandigai to Guduvancheri of about 18 km; and from Nallampakkam to Urapakkam GST Road (10 km), a release stated.

The decision was taken after CMDA Minister P K Sekarbabu held a review meeting with Tambaram Police Commissioner. The new suburban bus terminal with well-equipped infrastructure facilities at the cost of Rs 393.74 Crore will be inaugurated by Chief Minister MK Stalin in the next month as "Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminal".

The review meeting with Tambaram City Police Commissioner discussed how to run the mofussil buses without traffic congestion on the GST road. The focus was also on setting up alternative routes for southern district buses at Kilambakkam bus terminal.

During the review meeting housing secretary Selvi Apoorva IAS, Tambaram police commissioner Dr A Amalraj, Transport Commissioner Niraml Raj, district collector Chengalpet AR Rahul Nadh and other officials were present.
