CMDA seals buildings for flouting norms


Chennai:
In a bid to check unauthorized construction in Chennai Metropolitan Area, Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority’s (CMDA) on Friday locked and sealed a building at Thousand Lights for violating section 56 and 57 of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1971.

CMDA said the owner of the building in
Gulam abbas Ali Khan 2nd Street, Thousand lights, had obtained planning permission from Chennai Corporation on October 27,2010 for the construction of stilt floor plus two floors office building.
Wherein, in contravention to the approved plan, the owner has constructed basement floor plus ground floor plus two floors and third floor (part) with column raised up to roof level. The unauthorized or deviated building involves violation in terms of building dimension, setbacks, floor space index, unauthorized construction of basement floor, ground floor and third floor (part).
Despite the locking and sealing issued on October 25, 2012, the owner did not rectify the building according to approved plan and continue to proceed with the construction. As such the building was sealed on Friday, a CMDA release said.
