Police
said that no case has been filed after knowing that the passenger was
mentally ill. Debnath was referred to Chrompet hospital from where he is
now transferred to Institute of Mental Health in Kilpauk. He is likely
to undergo treatment for the next two days before being discharged
A
mentally ill passenger created a ruckus in Chennai Airport after he
attacked a Central Industrial Security Force personnel, Air India staff,
his wife and passengers after entering Gate Number 3 where passengers
were boarding Air India flight to Coimbatore.
Accompanied
by his wife, twenty-eight-year-old Subba Debnath, who was to board the
Spicejet flight at Gate Number 5 that was scheduled to depart at 1450
hours, entered the boarding point of Air India.
As
he entered into the area under the control of CISF, he was being
stopped by CISF personnel. However, the passenger got violent and
attacked the CISF sub-inspector. An Air India staff who intervened was
also attacked. He also attacked passengers and whoever came into his
way, a Air India spokesman said.
He
was later brought under the control of CISF and taken to airport police
station. Police said that Debnath was undergoing treatment for mental
illness and skin allergy at Vellore CMC for the last 15 days. Since he
was discharged from the hospital, his wife was about to take him to
Kolkata.
