A Filipino crew of a merchant vessel, who was suffering from high fever and vomiting was evacuated by Indian Coast Guard Ship Rajshree and provided adequate medical care.
Indian Coast Guard spokesman said that the captain of Majuro Flag gas tanker ‘Al Dafna’, onits way to South Korea, requested Maritime Rescue Co-Ordination Center Port Blair for urgent medical evacuation of the medically ill crew.
Evaluating the criticality of the situation, Coast Guard medical officer provided tele-medical advice to the 27-year old Filipino Sasota Irish D John.
Simultaneously, Indian Coast Guard Ship Rajshree sailed for urgent medical evacuation. At the time of emergency reporting, the vessel was 35 nautical miles south-west of Indira Point, near Campbell Bay enroute from Qatar to South Korea.
The Liquefied Petroleum Gas carrying merchant vessel had long passage time to next port of call South Korea, therefore it was decided to evacuate crew amid sea as soon as possible
The crew was evacuated and taken to Campbell Bay and from there immediately shifted to primary health centre for immediate medical attention. Later, the patient was transferred to Port Blair via Coast Guard Dornier for further medical treatment on Friday.
