Metro Water sets deadline to regulate discharge of sewage in newly added areas of corporation limits

Metro Water has set a deadline of 15 days for sewer tankers and lorries of private operators operating in the newly added areas of Chennai Corporation limit to register with Metro Water to enable it to regulate the final discharge in sewage treatment plants.

Warning the private operators against discharging sewage in waterways and unauthorized places , Metro Water managing director Dr K Gopal said that the maintenance of sewerage facilities in the newly added areas of Chennai Corporation Limit including removing of sewage from septic tanks and disposing it at authorized sewage treatment plant is regulated as per Section 61 (1) & (2) of Metro water Act 1978.

“Certain sewer tanker or lorries of private operators operating in erstwhile local bodies, which have now merged with Chennai Corporation, are found discharging the sewage in waterways and in unauthorized places causing public nuisance,” he said.

They should first register with Metro water board to enable the board to regulate the final discharge of sewage to the places like Kodungaiyur, Koyambedu, Nesapakkam and Perungudi Sewage Treatment plants, Gopal said.

He said the sewer lorries operating in the newly formed corporation limit has to register with Metro Water board No 1 at Pumping Station Road in Chintadripet or at nodal officer’s at Tiruvottriyur, Manali, Madhavaram, Ambattur, Valasarwalkkam, Alandur, Perungudi and Solinganallur with in 15 days.

“Failure to comply with this notice will attract action as per rules,” he added.
