India will become third largest power by 2030: Milliband


Chennai:
China will be the first superpower in the world with a low capita income in 2018 and India will become a third largest power by 2030, according to former British Foreign secretary.
Addressing a gathering while delivering a talk on Emerging world order: Economics and politics here, Milliband said India’s entry into security council can be a blessing but it will also be a travail and added Indian and Britain have a vital role to play in world polity.
He also highlighted  a seismic shift of economic power from West to East and the rise of 50-70 million global middle class in Asia each year. This kind of shift and speed of shift has never happened before.”
While said BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India and China) will be a new force, he also added six of the next 11 nations who will play a key role in the polity will be from Asia. These include Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan, Vietnam, South Korea and Philippines.
He also highlighted the second biggest gist of wind affecting the ship of the world affairs is the shifting of power from public and private to the individuals. This Civilian Surge which is shift of power from politics to individuals is not only affecting the autocratic nations but also democratic countries, he said while highlighting the movement against corruption in India. “This means the rulers in the country have to legitimize their decision with the support of individuals,” he added.
He also highlighted the shift from resource plenty to resource scarcity with the prices of non-oil commodities rising in the last 10 years has resulted in fundamental shift to urbanization and climate change.
Another biggest change is the rise of political Islam which has many brands some like Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt are changing. He also highlighted the interdependence of people with each other due to globalization. “People are connected where small action can play a big role,” he said.
Milliband also said there is a absence of doctorine on how manage the interdependent world while highlighting action of a nation state can affect people of the other side of the world.
Milliband also slammed US and said the country is reticent over laws and treaties which affect its own policies. However, he did admit the invasion of iraq was a mistake. He also warned US of cutting of ties with Pakistan.
