Chennai:
A 15.6 meter long interceptor craft of Indian Navy sank 90 nautical miles North east of Chennai early today.
Defence sources said that a fire broke out on the ship, which was on routine deployment at around 2am. This caused extensive damage to the Fibre-glass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) hull of the craft resulting in sinking of the boat despite all out efforts by the crew to save it. There were no casualties. Sources said that six crew members of the boat swam to safety. It is learnt that the interceptor craft might be heading towards Vizag when the incident could have happened.
