Chennai:
The Indian Coastguard has seized 17,050 kg of Ganja off
Fourth Island near Rameshwaram during a joint coordinated operation with
customs and other security agencies.
Working on a tip off Coastguard station Mandapam launched
combing operation by deploying hovercraft beached near Fourth Island which
resulted in seizure of the eight packets of Ganja wrapped in brown paper and
covered by polythene bags under the sand. However, no one was arrested in this
connection.
It is suspected that the contraband could have been
smuggled from Andhra Pradesh and could be on its way to Sri Lanka. A detailed
investigation is being undertaken.
