Chennai Air Customs foil bid to smuggle heroin

CHENNAI:
Chennai Air Customs foiled bid to smuggle 940 grams of heroin worth Rs 6.58 crore by Ugandan national at Chennai Airport. Twenty-seven year old Elly James Opii arrived from Sharjah by Air Arabia flight G9-471 on May 8. He was intercepted by Air Intelligence Officers of the Chennai Customs, a release stated.

The passenger had swallowed 80 capsules containing ivory colour powder material which upon testing was identified as Heroin. Totally, 940 grams of Heroin with street value of around Rs. 6.58 crore approximately was recovered and seized from the passenger. The passenger was arrested under the provisions of NDPS Act, 1985 read with Customs Act, 1962, the release added.
