Chennai Telephones to roll out 5G connections by March 2025

Chennai:

Chennai Telephones will roll out 5G connections by March next year, according to Chennai Telephones Chief General manager Papa Sudhakara Rao.

He said that after Reliance Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea (Vi) have announced substantial price increases for their prepaid and postpaid plans, subscribers are porting to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited in Chennai.

He said that 40,000 subscribers have joined anew in the last 20 days after the new tariffs by most of the telecom providers came into effect.

"We don't have any plans to increase the tariff. Our focus is to expand our business," said Rao.

He said Chennai Telephones is on an expansion mode and plans to rollout 4G connections after adding more than 300 towers in Chennai, which also comprises Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram and chengalpet, compatible to 4G by December. Currently, we have 1800 towers and we plan to expand it to 2100 towers," he said.

"Once Chennai migrates to 4G, then we will upgrade it to 5G. This will be rolled out on March this year," he said. Rao said that of the 2100 towers, nearly 60% to 70% will be fibrised thus providing the subscribers with quality services.
