Chennai:
The Supreme Court judgement cancelling 2G licences issued in 2008 may turn out to be a blessing for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited in the state as it is planning to cash in on the verdict by working on a strategy to teleport estimated more than 60 lakh subscribers who are likely to be hit.

“The verdict will tilt the balance in the favour of BSNL,” said BSNL sources.

Interestingly, BSNl number portability was hit hard earlier with as many as 220,000 customers ported out and only 92,243 ported in. “The ratio was 1:5 but now we are able to bring the ratio to 1:1.6,” said BSNl source.

Interestingly, the employees union have welcomed the Supreme Court judgement and attributed the success to the union’s effort in exposing the scam.

Chennai Circle secretary for BSNL Employees Union K Govindaraj said BSNL is working on a strategy to enroll the subscribers hit by the 2G verdict of the apex court.

State secretary of BSNL Employees Union in Tamil Nadu S Chellappa said a joint action meeting was held on Friday afternoon hailing the Supreme Court judgement and planning ways to woo the consumers fold. from Idea, Tata and Uninor to BSNL’s fold.

“Although the court has given four months time but BSNL is ensuring that special effort is being made to woo the five crore subscribers who are likely to be hit by the verdict across India. In Tamil, we expect it will be above 65 lakh,” he added.
To a query on whether BSNL has adequate resources to welcome such a huge chunk of subscribers into its base, pat came a replythat BSNL has sufficient capacity to welcome the subscribers into its fold.
