Submit plan to quench thirst of Chennai: Minister



Chennai:
Municipal Administration Minister K P Munusamy on Friday asked the Metro Water officials to submit a detailed plan on the measures being taken to quench the thirst of the expanded areas of Chennai Metropolitan Area.

The minister who attended a review meeting at the Metro Water office on Friday told officials to ensure that there will be uninterrupted water supply during the summer.

His statement comes in the wake of Chennai short of 304 mld of water as it could supply only 740 mld of water against the demand of 1,044 mld following the addition of new areas in the Chennai Metropolitan Area.

The minister asked the officials on the availability of water and and how could it be distributed to the newly added 42 local bodies in Chennai Corporation.

He also reviewed drinking water schemes at Madhavaram, Porur, Alandur, Pallavaram, Tiruvotiyur, Nerkundram and Avadi and urged the officials to complete the project on time.

He also urged the officials to identify reasons for the delay of Nemelli project and urged them to complete it soon.

He also said Metro water should construct storage tanks besides water filling stations as a stop gap measure to provide water to the expanded areas.
