The National Action Plan on Climate Change to reduce green
house gases will have an additional component that will focus on cleaner and
greener technologies, which includes advanced ultra super critical thermal
plant.Dr R Chidambaram, principal scientific adviser to Union government told reporters here on Monday on the sidelines of Confederation of Indian Industry Conference on ‘Automotive R&D Trends 2015’ that the ninth mission of NAPCC will also include Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) and capturing and storing of carbon-dioxide.
The eight missions under NAPCC include National
Solar Mission, National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency, National
Mission on Sustainable Habitat, National Water Mission, National Mission for
Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem, National Mission for a Green India,
National Mission fro Sustainable Agriculture and National Mission on Strategic
Knowledge for Climate Change.
The ninth mission will also include Integrated Gasification
Combined Cycle (IGCC) and capturing and storing of carbondioxide.
Since, the heat-resistant steel that is used as the material
for the steam turbine and boiler cannot withstand 700 or higher steam heat,
memorandum of understanding is on with Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic
Research, which has expertise in materials research, Bharat Heavy Eletctricals
Limited and National Thermal Power Corporation to develop the boiler.
