Chennai:
Director general of Income Tax (investigations) has asked Dharapuram-based stock broker and copra and groundnuts dealer Ramalingam to appear again on Friday for investigation into the Rs 26,000 bill of exchange seized from his residence.
Ramalingam’s advocate Ilango said the officials have summoned Ramalingam again on Friday. Although the veracity of the bill of exchange has yet to be established, the grilling of Ramalingam by the income tax department went on till 10.30 pm on Friday.
“We left after 10.30pm. He was summoned again on Friday next ,” said his advocate.
Interestingly, this comes in the wake of additional director general of Income Tax (investigations) S Murli Mohan stating  that it would take atleast a week to ascertain the genuineness mof $5 billion bill of exchange.
Mohan has said that Ramalingam has been giving different versions and his claims that he got it from a Brazilian for exchange of gold is being verified.
