Chennai:
A joint commissioner of income tax was arrested by Central Bureau of
Investigation while accepting a bribe from a chartered accountant.
CBI said that its anti-corruption branch in Chennai caught red-handed
Joint Commissioner, Income Tax, Range-VI, Nungambakkam, Sallong Yaden
while he was accepting the bribe from chartered accountant Shreyans
Bhandari of S H Bhandari & Co., Chartered Accountants to give a
favourable report on the Income Tax search conducted on a private
company based in Chennai.
It is learnt CBI is conducting searches at nine places in Chennai
including various residences, offices and also at few places outside
Chennai. Several incriminating documents, files relating to the
questioned assessments, computers, laptops, cellphones, cash, huge
quantities of gold jewellery and silver bars were recovered till the
last reports came in. Searches are still continuing.
Both Yaden and Bhandari have been arrested an are being produced
before the CBI special judge. Cases has been registered a case vide RC
1(A)/15 u/s.120-B IPC r/w 7, 12, 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988
against the Yaden, Shreyans Bhandari, managing director the private
firm Hitesh Kawad and Sanjay Bhandari of S.H. Bhandari & Co.,
