Naidu vows govt commitment to secularism

Chennai:

The Union Housing and Poverty Alleviation Minister Venkaiah Naidu
vowed his government’s commitment to secularism by stating that
secularism is in the blood of Indian people and it can’t be removed.

“Secularism there in the blood of Indian people and it is part of our
culture,” the minister said while referring to the controversy
surrounding over the government advertisement which had carried a
picture of the Preamble to the Constitution as it appeared before the
42nd Amendment, without the words ‘secular’ and ‘socialist.’

Speaking during the conference on Tamil Nadu smart cities organized by
Confederation of Indian Industry here on Thursday, the minister said
that his government doesn’t did not think of removing it from the
Preamble of Indian constitution.

The minister said that the word secularism was not there in original
preamble and it was inserted during emergency. The government
advertisement was about the original preamble and we are committed to
secularism.

The advertisement showed a picture of the Preamble in the background
with a quote from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and pictures of some
citizens in the foreground.

Naidu also said the nuclear diplomacy was in the larger interest of
the country and done after much of discussion.
