Chennai:
Tamil Nadu data centre, one of the core e-Governance backbone
infrastructure under National e-Governance Action Plan (NeGP), would be cloud
enabled this year, according to Atul Anand, managing director Electronics
corporation of Tamil Nadu.
Speaking during the inaugural session of ICTACT Bridge
2013 – Chennai Edition, Anand said that cloud computing would enable the
government to leverage cloud computing for effective delivery of e-services.
Interestingly, this comes in the wake of Department of
Electronics and IT (DeitY) and GI Cloud Task Force coming
out with Government of India’s GI Cloud Strategic Direction Paper this month. The
‘GI Cloud’ is the Union government’s initiative to enable the government to
leverage cloud computing for effective delivery of e-services.
Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous,
convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing
resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that
can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or
service provider interaction.
As per the paper, the GI Cloud is envisaged to comprise
of multiple National and State Clouds. The agencies responsible for operating
and managing the National and State Clouds may engage Managed Service Providers
(MSPs) for managing the respective cloud computing environments.
Meanwhile, Anand also said the state government is also
planning to link 12,000 panchayats with broadband connectivity. He said the aim
of the government is provide services to the common man at their door step.
He also said the state government is planning to have
additional 2,000 village level entrepreneurs.
He also highlighted the success of ICT Academy of Tamil
Nadu (ICTACT) an initiative of state and Union government along with Confederation
of Indian Industry (CII) on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
He said it has embarked on the novel path of improving
the quality of students in Tamil Nadu and many states are eager to borrow the
model.
The objective of ICTACT is to train the Higher Education
teachers and students of the ICT domain, for benefiting the students to become
Industry ready and employable and
thereby creating a new generation of talent pool which would benefit the ICT
Industry in the Tamil Nadu.
The ICTACT Bridge 2013 conference is focusing to address
issues challenging employability with focus on 21st century skills
for education, employability and entrepreneurship.
Speaking on the occasion Kumar Jayant, project director
of Tamil Nadu Aids Control Society stressed for the need for a rethink on the
education system which is more focused on rote learning.
Adisor to Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and
industry president P Murari said there is a need for a partnership between

cells in educational institutions.
