Chennai:
Esri India, the country’s leading GIS Software &
Solutions provider, a joint venture between NIIT Technologies Limited, the
global IT services provider and US-based Esri Inc, the global leader in
geographic information systems (GIS), announced the launch of ArcGIS Online
(AGOL), a cloud based GIS platform.
AGOL is a ground breaking platform which provides intuitive
tools to create and publish maps and applications on demand for visualizing and
sharing geospatial information.
“GIS technology is moving from traditional use as a
specialised problem solving tool to the core of enterprise applications” said
Arvind Thakur, Chairman, NIIT-GIS Ltd. “ArcGIS Online is a new cloud based
mapping system which transforms the way geographical information is managed and
used”, he added.
AGOL provides open GIS capabilities to any user allowing
access to any application, anywhere, anytime on any device. It facilitates
sharing and use of geospatial content within groups of an organization, as well
as between organizations and the public, providing a pervasive platform for
services. This innovative platform will find use in many government programs
such as public safety, health, utility, infrastructure and business
applications like site suitability and location analytics. Individuals can
benefit from improved citizen services.
Speaking on the occasion, Dean Angelides, Corporate
Director, International Operations at Esri Inc. said, “We are very excited with
the launch of AGOL in India. As a global leader, we always strive hard to
provide greater value to our users by enabling them to solve real world
problems more effectively. Early adopters of ArcGIS Online have realized
immediate benefits from extending their geographic information to reach more
people within their organization and beyond”.
Globally, AGOL has been used in solving many significant
challenges such as organizing and providing open access to global environmental
information, more effective and coordinated responses to large-scale natural
disasters, and enabling more efficient operations for global business
enterprises.
