More
than 70,000 bank employees in the state would go on two-day strike from
Wednesday crippling banking operations and cheque transaction worth thousands
of crores a day, according to C M Baskaran convenor of United Forum of Bank
Unions – Tamil Nadu.
Addressing
a press conference here on Tuesday, Baskaran said that banking sector would be
totally affected in entire Tamil Nadu because of the proposed strike. He said
the bank employees from private banks, foreign banks, cooperative banks and
regional rural banks would join the two-day nation-wide continous stir called
by 11 major trade unions of the country.
“Clearing
operations, cash transactions and all other banking services will affected,” he
added.
He
said more than 20,000 bank employees from 1,500 branches in the Chennai will be
taking part in the strike. Baskaran said demonstration would be held before
Union Bank of India, Broadway on Wednesday and also before collectorate office
opposite beach station on Thursday.
