All India Bank Officers Association to back two-day nationwide stir from Feb 20

Chennai:
All India Bank Officers' Association (AIBOA) on Tuesday said they will back the All India strike called by 11 major trade unions of the country on February 20-21.
Addressing a press conference here, S Nagarajan, General Secretary of AIBOA, the second largest officers’ union in the banking industry, said more than 50,000 officers would participate in the strike.
He said the strike would affect cheque transactions worth Rs 35,000 crore. Interestingly, the announcement by AIBOA to join the two-day nationwide stir comes in the wake of All India Trade Union Congress general secretary  and Communist Party of India leader Gurudas Dasgupta urging Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to extend moral support to the strike against the Union government policies which her claims are “anti-people”.
During the strike transport, power, banking, insurance, defence, post office, income tax and various other sectors are likely to be hit.
Nagarajan and Lakshmi Narasimhan, chairman of Tamil Nadu AIBOA said the association is opposing core banking solutions proposed by the Union government. “The operational integration through technology platform shall lead to merger of banks and will subsequently result in cutting down of bank’s branches in rural areas,” said Narasimhan. Nagarajan alleged this move is against the spirit of financial inclusion.
The association also demanded regulated working hours, restoration of compassionate ground appointments in banks, five days banking and extension of pension option in IDBI workforce.
