Chennai:
The preliminary enquiry report into the derailment of
Muzafurpur–Yeswanthpur Express that killed one person and injured 33 others
between Chitteri–Mahendrawadi stations in Arakkonam–Katpadi section of Chennai
Division will be submitted within one month, according to a top railway
official.
Addressing reporters before conducting the statutory inquiry
at the Southern Railways divisional railway manager’s conference hall here on
Monday, Satish Kumar Mittal, commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern circle,
Bangalore, said that the two-day statutory enquiry will look into all the
details relating to derailment of the train.
Mittal also said that the enquiry would also look into why
the stretch has been accident-prone after reporters pointed out that 11
accidents have occurred in the same stretch during the last seven years.
More than 30-40 railway officials are taking part in the
enquiry. “We have also invited people, who have knowledge relating
to the accident and matter connected therewith and willing to give evidence, to
attend the enquiry. They can also write to the Commissioner of Railway Safety,
Southern Circle,” he added.
There was also some drama and heated exchange between
reporters and the divisional railway manager P K Mishra when he threatened to
throw out the journalists, who were present to gather information about the
enquiry. The issue was later sorted out.
