Tamil Nadu poised to emerge as a global hub for health tourism : CII


Chennai:  Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Tamil Nadu will organise the first edition of Tamil Nadu Health Tourism 2013 – an International Conference and Exhibition on Health Tourism on April 19 and 20 at Chennai Trade Centre.  The event is supported by Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation.

“The main aim of Tamil Nadu Health Tourism 2013 is to promote Tamil Nadu as a global hub for Health Tourism as the State is already a leader in the healthcare sector”, said Dr S Chandra Kumar, Convenor, Healthcare Panel, CII Tamil Nadu & Managing Director, Kauvery Hospitals while addressing media in Chennai.

Dr Kumar said that Tamil Nadu is a pioneer in providing world class healthcare services at affordable cost. Ultra-modern corporate hospitals, talented medical professionals, paramedics and the best practices in health delivery both in the private and public sectors  attracts large number of people from all over the world for  medical treatment.  TN Health Tourism 2013 will further showcase and position Tamil Nadu as a preferred global destination for health tourism, he further said.

Speaking about the event, Dr Chandra Kumar said that TN  Health Tourism 2013 would highlight the emerging trends, opportunities and challenges in the Indian health tourism arena, discuss preparedness of Indian hospitals and will be a congregation of major hospitals, health insurance companies, policy makers, tourism promotion boards, hotels and resorts, health travel and tour operators and international institutions for promotion of health tourism.

The event will witness ministerial level participation from Central African Republic besides representation of senior diplomats from countries such as; Mauritius, Taiwan, UK, USA, Australia, Canada, Germany, France & China.

As part of the event, an International Conference on Health Tourism will be organised on  April 19.   The conference would focus on topics such as; International Experiences & Best Practices on Healthcare; Relevance of accreditation in promoting health tourism; International linkages for enhancing competence and growth;  Challenges in health tourism and Making Tamil Nadu as the preferred medical tourism destination.
