BSNL opens bids from Monday

Chennaites now have a chance to own
a fancy landline numbers of their choice with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL)
Chennai Telephones launching an online e-auction for allotting landline Vanity
numbers in all the exchanges under its operational area.
A BSNL spokeswoman said that this is
the first of its kind effort in all over the country and across operators. The
modalities and procedure is similar to that adopted in the mobile vanity number
e-auction.
Nearly 20,000 landline vanity
numbers that are categorised into three levels viz., Level I, Level II and
Level III are being put up for auction and the base price fixed are Rs 20,000, Rs
10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively. The auction will begin from 10am on Monday
and close at 5pm on April 22.
Customers who are interested to
participate in the bid should register for each vanity number by paying a non
refundable registration amount of Rs 100. This payment is to be made only
through online.
The bidding amount can be in the multipes
of 100 over and above the reserve price. The bidding customer has to give
the telephone number presently working for him or any adjacent working number
thereupon the system will display the vanity numbers that are available under
that particular telephone exchange area.
Subject to technical feasibility, the
vanity number will be issued to the highest bidder upon payment of the bid
amount and also submission of valid documents like address proof or identity
proof etc.
Interested customers whether
individuals and companies or firms registered as Indian Company within the area
of Chennai Telephones can participate in this online e-auction and avail this
