Chennai:
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has hailed the series of
announcements made by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for industrial
development of southern districts of the State.
“The
measures taken by the Chief Minister towards creation of new industrial parks
across various districts would act as a big boost towards tapping the potential
of southern districts which have remained unutilized over the last few years”
said a CII release issued here on Wednesday.
CII
also believes that the initiatives would create thousands of employment
opportunities, both direct and indirect and would help upgrade the standard of living
of the people in the southern districts and to a major extent would reduce
migration to metropolitan areas. The Industrial parks would cover various
sectors like petroleum refinery, engineering, food processing, renewable energy
etc. and CII has been taking various initiatives in all these sectors and would
extend best possible support to work hand in hand with the Government.
The
slew of measures announced for MSMEs including land at 50 per cent
subsidy, 2000 acre land bank, land ownership for MSMEs after 30 years of
lease, 20 per cent of area of industrial estates created for mega industries
for MSMEs, 75 per cent grant and a maximum of Rs 15 crore to get electricity
and water connections etc, would be a boon for the ailing MSME sector and
it is also supplemented with measures on renewable energy, entrepreneurship
development and special training programmes for women entrepreneurs etc.
CII
also welcomed the announcement that SIDCO would invest 10 per cent of the
capital if private industries and industrial bodies come forward to set up the
industrial estates. The announcements highlight the path towards attaining the
goals envisioned in the TN Vision 2023 document which was unveiled by the Chief
Minister last year, the release added.
