Chennai City Postal Region set an unique record by enrolling a two
minute old baby R Dhanalakshmi under Sukanya Samriddhi Account on
Friday at Kovur Post office under Tambaram division.
The child was born at public health centre at Somangalam at 9.35 am
and was enrolled under the scheme by her father Rajasekar and mother
Jayalakshmi within two minutes of her birth.
Interestingly, Tambaram postal division alone had opened highest
number of accounts, which is also the highest by any postal division
in the country. Tambaram division has 95 sub post offices and three
head post offices besides 148 branch offices.
