Chennai:
The Madras High Court will conduct a judicial review of the fee
fixation order of The Commitee of Fixation of Fee In respect of Self
Financing Professional Colleges.
The order was passed by Chief Justice of Madras High Court S K Kaul
and Justice T S Sivagnanam after hearing a petition by Velammal
Medical College Hospital and Research Institute.
Chief Justice S K Kaul said that the senior counsel of Velammal
appearing for the Velammal Medical College contends that the expenses
of the petitioner have not been taken into account which is alleged to
be obvious from the fact that total salary to be disbursed in Rs 11
crore while as per the fee fixed, the recovery would be only Rs 10
crore. “There are stated to be of course other expenses,” the judge
said.
He asked the Fee Fixation Committee to file an affidavit explaining
the fee fixation for the petitioner by June 10, 2015. Teh rejoinder
should be filed within two weeks. The next hearing will be held on
June 29, 2015.
The notice is accepted by P Sanjay Gandhi, additional government
pleader appearing for Tamil Nadu government and The Commitee of
Fixation of Fee In respect of Self Financing Professional Colleges.
The committee was constituted for fixation of fee of self financing
colleges under the chairmanship of Justice N V Balasubramanian. The
institutions were asked to submit the fee revision proposal for under
graduate and post graduate medical and dental courses for the academic
year 2014-15, 2015-16, and 2016-17
