Japan identifies Ennore Port as logistic hub in Chennai-Bengaluru corridor

Chennai:
Japanese government has identified Ennore Port as logistic hub in Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor and Japan International Cooperation Agency has begun a study in this regard, according to Ennore Port spokesman.
He said that government of Japan has shown interest in developing Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor as part of Penninsular Region Industrial Development (PRIDe) and Japanese Companies have been also evincing a lot of interest in using Ennore Port.
He said a high level delegation led by Union Shipping minister G K Vasan will be visiting Japan from Thursday on the invitation of Akihiro Ohta, Japan Minister of Land, Infrastructure Transport and Tourism. The focus will be on to enhance Japanese interests in utilizing Ennore and Chennai Ports.
The delegation consists of Shipping secretary Vishwapati Trivedi, Ennore port chairman and managing director M A Bhaskarachar and other officials of Ministry of Shipping.
At present, Nissan Motors India and Toyota are the major Japanese Companies using the Ennore Port facilities for their export. Nissan Motors has exported about 3 lakhs cars from Ennore Port. Toyota has so far exported 42,000 cars from the Port.

During the visit, Vasan would also have discussions for obtaining JICA funding for Outer Harbour project of VOC Port in Tuticorin. The delegation would also be visiting the Port of Yokohama and Port of Nagoya to see the port operations and the latest technologies being utilized in these two Ports.
