India non-commital on US war crimes resolution against Lanka

Chennai:
Prime Minister’s Office is non-commital on backing United States resolution in United Nations Human Rights Council demanding an international investigation against Sri Lanka over alleged war crimes by its army against the Sri Lankan Tamils.
Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office V Narayanasamy till now has neither confirmed nor denied India’s stance on United States resolution in United Nations Human Rights Council demanding an international investigation against Sri Lanka over alleged war crimes by its army.
When queried by reporters, he said human rights violations happened from both the sides during the ethnic war but categorically did not say whether India will back the US resolution.
Interestingly, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa along with all the parties in the state, including Tamil Nadu Congress, has written to the Prime Minister to back the resolution.
He said that he along with Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan also held discussions on the issue with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. “If there is any resolution condemning right violations, the government will back it,” he said.
On the bugging of Defence Minister’s office, he said it was not bugging but a routine check-up. He also slammed the attack on media personnel by the Bangalore lawyers.
