Chennai:
The Tamil Nadu government said in the budget that the allocation
under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan for 2012-2013 will be increased to an all
time high amount of Rs.6,108.60 crores, constituting 21.82 per cent of the
Annual Plan outlay. It will also be ensured that the funds meant for Adi
Dravidar reach the required target group.
Government also announced a sum
of Rs.76.76 crore towards enhanced
feeding charges in hostel for the year 2012-2013.
The
state government also announced a
sum of Rs.331.31 crores has been provided in this Budget for
pre-matric and postmatric scholarships for students from Adi-Dravidar/Tribal
communities. For the first time in the history of Tamil Nadu, the Chief Minister
has announced that the post matric scholarship will be extended to the students
of Adi-Dravidar/Tribal communities studying in free and paid seats of
recognised self-financing institutions.
The construction of 49 hostels has been taken up in the current
financial year and the balance 44 hostels will be taken up in 2012-2013 under
NABARD-RIDF. Further, upgradation of essential infrastructure facilities in
1,080 hostels has been taken up with an outlay of Rs.83.40 crores. As yet another initiative, to
end the practice of college hostel students sleeping on the floor, cots will be
provided to all college hostels during 2012-2013.
