Koodankulam likely to get green signal from state

Chennai:
There is a surge of optimism over Koodankulam issue after the cabinet meeting even as Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office V Narayanasamy backed Tamil Nadu government over handling Koodankulam protests and ruled out any dual game by the state government.

Expressing optimism that the work on Koodankulam plant will start soon, the minister had told reporters here that the Union government is ready to open the plant at any time but the law and order is the subject of state government and with the state government backing the work will be started soon. This may be a green signal to the Koodankulam issue as sources claim the Cabinet has okayed the commissioning of plant but the decision is withheld due to Sankarankoil elections.

On People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) meeting Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, Narayanaswamy said the state government very positive on the issue and is not playing a double game. They know the importance of the need of power.

Reiterating his demand to arrest anti-nuclear activists spearheading the protest against the Kudankulam project, he said the protesters should be arrested for obstructing work and food supplies. “However, law and order is the state government’s prerogative and it is up to the state to decide on what kind of action they will take,” he said.
