Chennai:
If one goes by the figures of Employees State Insurance Corporation,
unemployment could be a thing of past.
Joint director of ESIC, Tamil Nadu region V Loorthu says that a total
of one lakh new employees register with ESI every month.
But then he cautions that one need not be alarmed with such figures.
“This is mostly due to multiple registration. A single person may be
filing three to four forms,” he said during an interactive session
organise Confederation of Indian Industry with ESI and Provident Fund
officials.
Interestingly, Loorthu has asked the industry to help stop multiple
registration of employee. “You should ask him to provide his previous
ESI code number,” he says.
Interestingly, ESIC is coming up with Pehchaan card to stop the
duplication in registration. “The duplication happens when the
employee after resigning from one job registers again with ESIC. The
employer fails to ask for his earlier code as a result he gets new
code,” he says.
But once Pehchaan card is issued, the insured person has to use the
same card even if he changes employment. This would cut short the
duplication,” he says.
M Narayanappa, additional Central Provident Fund Commissioner, Tamil
Nadu and Karnataka provided tips to the industry on Provident Fund
schemes.
