Chennai:
Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority has till now surveyed 195
multi-storied as well as special buildings and found that 65 of them
had deviated from the original plan.
A CMDA official told Express that during the survey by CMDA inspection
teams, it was found that a total of 60 buildings had minor deviations.
“We have issued them notices and these buildings would get completion
certificate only after they rectify the deviations,” the official
said.
However, five buildings, both multi-storied as well as special
buildings, were issued stop work notices.
The inspection by CMDA officials comes in the wake of the collapse of
11-storied Moulivakkam building that killed more than 60 people. A
total of 700 buildings were ordered to be inspected for structural
defects.
The CMDA official said that the major concern is to inspect the
multi-storied buildings. “We would be completing the survey of 330
multi-storied buildings in the next 10 days,” the official said.
