Chennai:
More than 185 flats for All India Service officers are yet to be alloted under the Rs 445 crore Nerkundram housing scheme for government servants by Tamil Nadu Housing Board.

TNHB sources said that under the ‘Own your Housing Scheme’ scheme consisted of 1016 flats comprising 608 flats for All India Service officers, 120 flats for Group I officers and 288 flats for other staff of state government.

Now after the cancellation of allotments of 30 All India Service Officers, 186 AIS allotments are vacant. Besides these vacancies, there are nine vacant allotments under the high income group (HIG) or the quota allotted for Group I officers (A and B) besides 40 for low income group or group C and D officers of state government.

Sources said that there is a proposal to allot six blocks --- A, B, C, F, G and H blocks exclusively for All India Service officers so as to enable TNHB to allot the other two blocks namely D and E to others as per existing guidelines.

Now to fill in the vacancies, TNHB is planning to conduct a lot for officers who have an allotment in D and E blocks to move to A, B, C, F,  G and H blocks .

Interestingly, TNHB has sought applications to fill the vacant high income group and low income group flats from this month through a lot system, sources added
