Procuring of software from Seimens blamed on delay in conducting final Chennai Metro Rail trial run

Chennai:

The procuring of final software from Siemens has delayed the process
of inaugural commercial run of Chennai Metro rail from Koyambedu to
Alandur, according to a top metro rail official.

The top metro rail official told Express that the plan was to have the
inaugural commercial run by the end of the year but then Siemens
delayed in providing the final software for the final trial run of
Chennai Metro Rail in the stretch.

The final software would integrate design, supply, installation,
testing, signals besides providing track data and other vital data.
Sources said that through the final software entire power supply
system can be monitored and controlled through Supervisory Control and
Data Acquisition system (SCADA).

The remote operation can be managed from centralized operation control
centre located at Koyambedu.

Interestingly, the delay has angered top Metro rail officials that
they have taken up the issue with chief executive officer of the
company in Germany.

The official said they have procured the software now and the trials
are continuing. He said once the final trial is being conducted
through the final software then there will be an integrated trial run
which would be analysed by Seimens officials before being studied by
an independent Safety Assessor of Seimens.

Following this there will be two independent safety assessment tests
after which there will be statutory inspection of commissioner of
railway safety, Bengaluru.

Once the Commissioner of Rail safety gives green signal then the
Ministry of Railways has to give a clearance following which the dates
of the inaugural trial run would be decided.

Interestingly, the works on the metro rail stations are also yet to be
completed. “We planned it on November but then we are positive that it
will be inaugurated early next year,” the official said.

Till now no date has been given. It could only be decided after
getting vital clearances of the commissioner of railway safety,
Chennai Metro Rail sources said.

It is believed that if the city gets its quota of monsoon then the
pending work on the elevated stretch could be delayed further
