Top DAE security officials rush to Kalpakkam to investigate the incident

Chennai:
The shooting incident at Kalpakkam township, located 10km from the Nuclear
Complex, has sparked serious concerns among the nuclear scientific
community in India as top security officials from Deparment of Atomic
Energy in Mumbai flew over to Chennai.
A senior official told Express that the pulling of trigger by CISF Head
constable VP Singh that resulted in the death of ASI R Ganesan, head
constables Subburaj and Mohan Singh has happened first time in
Kalpakkam sparking serious concern among nuclear community.
He said top security officials from DAE, including additional
secretary and inspector general of DAE are rushing to Kalpakkam to
investigate the matter.
He said immediately after the incident top security officials in and
around Kalpakkam have gathered to monitor the situation.
The township is located 10km from Kalpakkam Nuclear Complex was broken with
gunshots from Central Industrial Security Force Barracks that killed
three security personnel and injured one.
Meanwhile, officials from nuclear facilities in Kalpakkam said that
the incident won’t have any impact on the running of nuclear reactors.
A spokeswoman of Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research said that
the operations have not been impacted. “The incident happened at the
extreme corner of the township inside the barracks,” she said.
Sources at Indra Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research and Nuclear Power
Corporation of India Limited told Express that there are around 700
CISF personnel in the nuclear complex. Interestingly, IGCAR pays the
salary of 76 per cent of employees while NPCIL pays the wages of 24
per cent of CISF personnel.
