TN settles 14.93 lakh pending cases; distributes Rs 1390 cr as compensation


Chennai:

Tamil Nadu has settled more than 14.93 lakh pending cases and
distributed a record compensation of Rs 1390.77 crore at the mega
National Lok Adalat held on Saturday, according to executive chairman
of Tamil Nadu Legal Services Authority S K Agnihotri.

The cases include, pre-litigation cases, pending cases, revenue cases,
cases pertaining to consumer courts, debt recovery tribunal. Debt
recovery appellate tribunal as well as pension cases, he said during
his brief interaction with the reporters.

Interestingly, a 20 bench judges from Madras High Court and its bench
in Madurai are also conducting the Lok adalats, said V Dhanapalan,
chairman of High Court Legal Services Committee.

He said Madras high court along with its bench in Madurai alone have
settled around 362 pending cases and distributed compensation worth Rs
20.42 crore.

In Madurai bench of Madras High Court alone a total of 112 cases were
settled and Rs 6.31 crore compensation distributed. In Madras High
court, a total of 250 cases were settled and Rs 14.10 crore was
distributed as compensation.
