Ship likely to be
hauled on Thursday evening
Chennai:
As uncertainty looms
large over where M T Pratibha Cauvery will be anchored following Madras High
court order that the ship should not leave the High court jurisdiction,
officials said that the stranded ship is expected to be towed away from
Pattinapakkam near Marina Beach by Thursday evening.
Reacting to the court
order, port officials said that Chennai Port is oil loading and unloading port
and if the vessel is berthed in Chennai Port then the port will not be able to
supply oil.
A senior port official
said that they have requested the vessel to be taken where it can be repaired
and it is up to the court and director general of shipping to take a decision
in this regard. Till now no decision has been taken as such the ship will be
towed away to outer anchorage till further orders.
Meanwhile, emergency towing vessel SCI Ratna
has arrived in Chennai limits to help tow away the ship and has been anchored
outside the port limit.
Pratibha Warna: Meanwhile,
Pratibha Warna crew have yet to decide on whether they want to berth the ship
and discharge 7,900 metric tonnes of motor spirit oil of
Indian Oil Corporation.
International Transport Workers Federation
Sreekumar says the stalemate continues as they crew is yet to take any
decision. “We expect a breakthrough by tomorrow,” he said. The vessel is
anchored outside the Chennai Port for nearly 30 days as striking crew is
demanding their unpaid wages from the company.
