Chennai:
Tamil Nadu LLB Advocates Association has hailed the move
by Supreme Court to stay the order of Madras High Court bench in Madurai, which
directed the state bar council to suspend or remove those who joined law
courses after crossing the maximum age limit of 30.
The fate of over thousands of advocates, most of them who
did their graduation from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, hang in balance after
Madras High Court has passed the order seeking removal of those who joined law
courses after crossing maximum age limit of 30.
President of the association C B Muvendhan, who
circulated Supreme Court order staying Madras High court order said this now
gives them hope to register in bar council and also practice in the state.
The advocate said the issue began when the Legal
Practitioners Act came into being on 2008. As such those above 30 who got their
degrees from other states could not be enrolled into bar council.
Interestingly, Andhra Pradesh has challenged the act and
obtained a stay as a result most of the students in Tamil Nadu aged above 30
got their degree from Andhra Pradesh. However, it was a blow after Madras High Court
ordered the state bar council to suspend or remove those who joined law courses
after crossing the maximum age limit of 30.
This has given us a much needed relief said vice
president of the association S Natrajan.
